Researchers and scientists in Canada and around the world are working hard to better understand the virus, and its impacts on people and communities. We need long-term solutions to the virus. As such, we will be investing more than $1 billion in support of a national medical and research strategy to address COVID-19. This strategy will include:
– $115 million for research into vaccines and treatments being developed in hospitals and universities across the country.
– $662 million
for clinical trials led by Canada to make sure that once we have
potential vaccines and treatments, we can test a wide range of options.
– $350 million to expand national testing and modelling of COVID-19.
This new funding builds on the previously announced $275 million for coronavirus research and medical countermeasures.
