New Investments in Research and Treatment

New Investments in Research and Treatment

Researchers and scientists in Canada and around the world are working hard to better understand the virus, and its impacts on people and communities. We need long-term solutions to the virus. As such, we will be investing more than $1 billion in support of a national medical and research strategy to address COVID-19. This strategy will include:

– $115 million for research into vaccines and treatments being developed in hospitals and universities across the country.
– $662 million for clinical trials led by Canada to make sure that once we have potential vaccines and treatments, we can test a wide range of options.
– $350 million to expand national testing and modelling of COVID-19.

This new funding builds on the previously announced $275 million for coronavirus research and medical countermeasures.
